This Burnley & Trowbridge 18th Century Wired Cap Pattern is based on contemporary paintings dating from as early as 1745 to 1778. During the late 1760's, it appears frequently in portraiture, as fashionable hairstyles are growing larger. Most of the portraiture found is of middling to gentry social classes, however several portraits depict Lady's maids. This cap often is trimmed in some manner. Trimmings range from simple "top knot" ribbons to elaborate lace and ruchings as well as artificial flowers.
