Barras was a coarse linen originally from Holland. In your primary research, we studied several examples of extant Barras dated 1784. They consisted of weave patterns of twill, herringbone and sometimes combined with plain weave. One particular example we examined which was striped, said that is was used for "Shades, Horse Cloths & Coach Cases".
