"Lastings" or "Everlastings" are described by Montgomery as a stout closely woven worsted stuff, dyed black and other colors, and much used in lady’s shoes. They are found not only in shoes but for men’s suiting and sometimes for household use. There were different types of lastings with various names often determined by the weave. They were woven as a 2/1 twill, double or triple warp over single weft, broken twill, satin, and also brocaded. If figured they could be described by the pattern or by such names as Amens and Prunellas.
