Although this beautiful sheer window pane checked wool might be a little early for the 18th century, it certainly finds many applications in the 19th century. Balzarene was a dress material mixed with cotton and woven on Jacquard looms to combine figures with the gauze ground. Later "Barege" was woven for dresses mixed with silk and favored for shawls.
