Originating in India and the Middle East and introduced to Europe as early as the 17th century, muslin was described as "delicately woven cotton fabric" With the advent of the Spinning Jenny, it’s popularity soared during the last quarter of the 18th century and into the 19th century. It was considered highly desirable for its lightness, and ease of cleaning. The woven stripe of this fabric is extremely delicate giving it a subtle texture while still maintaining its sheerness. It has a very soft hand and drape making it a good choice for the Regency period inspired by Greek & Roman fashion.
