Serge was a twilled cloth with a worsted warp and woolen weft. It was of lighter and of better quality then kersey. Many kinds and qualities were woven and used for a variety of end purposes. We studied a coarse "sarge" in the Foundling collection used as a baby blanket as well as finer Norwich serges made for men's suiting.

  • This serge has a stain on one selvage edge that is 3 to 9 inches deep in places leaving approximately 54 inches of useable  fabric. Please see second image.
  • It is medium weight with a hard hand much like the originals we studied making it a hardy and durable fabric.
  • This textile is undyed so suitable for dyeing.
  • Suitable for men's coats, breeches, waistcoats,  jackets, women's riding habits, outerwear and children's clothing.
  • 100% English Wool 63.5 inches wide.
