Worsted “stuff” was a term that referred to a wide variety of worsted textiles produced originally in Norwich and later in York. These lightweight goods were characterized by their tightly twisted yarn, fineness of weave and smooth finish. This made the wool well suited to Men’s and Ladies' garments. The grades of stuff varied from coarse to fine and could be plain or twill woven. While searching for a name that best describes the color of this fabric, we found a source depicting "Charleston Green".  The source claimed the name first appeared when the north provided black paint for reconstruction post-Civil War.  The citizens of Charleston decided to add a bit of blue and yellow to the black which produced an incredibly dark green.  We feel the name "Charleston Green" describes it best as the fabric is a truly dark green.
