To be sold in North Carolina - 1778 "plushes of different colours"
Plush was a soft faced wool, much like velvet, dyed in all manner of colors and was a popular choice for breeches, waistcoats and winter jackets. Worn by all social classes, it is documented in tailors account books, runaway accounts and in orders for livery, reds, buffs & blues being the most common. Red was also the most common color used in the 18th century for lady's cloaks. Plushes called by other names could be found in later period garments especially in outerwear.
