To be sold in North Carolina - 1778 "plushes of different colours" 

Plush was a soft faced wool, much like velvet, dyed in all manner of colors. It was a popular choice for breeches, waistcoats and winter jackets. Worn by all social classes, it is documented in tailors account books, accounts of self-liberating people and in orders for livery, with reds, buffs & blues being the most common.  Plushes called by other names could be found in later period garments especially in outerwear.
