The two versions of Canezous in our Fig Leaf Patterns Canezou are lovely examples of a jacket style that developed in France in 1795 as the new higher-waisted gowns came into fashion. These were meant to be worn over a gown like a Spencer. Later fashion plates show a long sleeved version made from velvet.
Our Fig Leaf Patterns Canezou options are:
-
Canezou A was embroidered after it was constructed, and is a fine example of needlework.
-
Canezou B has tambour work designs in an allover pattern. More than likely, this work was done before the fabric was cut.
