This stunning handkerchief is reproduced from the Susan W. Greene collection from Genesee Country Village & Museum. The original, printed with either a plate or roller, displays the beautiful shaded stippling first introduced in 1816-17 and highly popular by the 30's.
This particular handkerchief has a date span of 1830-1850. The intricate motifs with their fine stippling are reminiscent of French designs of the early 19th century while the red and black motif is one we have seen as a popular combination as early as the mid 18th century.
