There has been much discussions about the term "shortgown" in the Historical Fashion community. It seems to be an American term although the garment it describes is still debated. This shortgown is a basic pattern developed from similar garments found in American collections with a late 18th and early 19th century date. This garment appears to be meant for work or possibly day wear with a simple T construction and pleated back to create fit.
