Ribbed & Clocked Heavy Wool Stockings - Seconds
These wonderful reproduction stockings are based on an original pair from the 18th century in the collection of The Historic Dockyard Chatham. The original stocking is made of worsted wool which was a common stocking worn by the working class. They wore hard and maintained insulating properties even when wet. The original stocking in the Dockyard collection might have been a stocking similar to the inventory of a purser supplying the sailors' clothing. These stockings are of a natural yarn so perfect for dying. The wee clock at the ankle is an added touch.
- These stockings are due to the lighterweight yarn and knitting irregularities at toe and knee.
- Handwashing and air drying recommended.
