Friday afternoon, April 14th - Sunday, April 16th, 2023
The waistcoat is one of the most basic parts of a man's wardrobe in the 18th century. A single waistcoat can easily dress up or down an entire suit of clothing. Worn by men of all ranks within society, this garment can be seen as the cornerstone of one's entire wardrobe.
Join Neal Hurst for a 2 ½ day workshop where participants will:
- Discuss the use, style, fabric, and construction of these garments.
- Examine a variety of types of men's waistcoats with a focus on the 1770s.
- Measure, pattern, and fit a basic single breasted waistcoat without sleeves using 18th c. tailor's techniques.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a fitted and partially completed waistcoat.
All participants should have produced an article of 18th century clothing using a pattern and have fitted that piece of clothing, as well as have good hand sewing skills. Please read more about our current Workshop Levels here.
Class size is limited to 12 participants.
