Black Wool Gauze

In the 18th century, the term "gauze" described thin, transparent fabrics, including sheer wools. By the 19th century, figured sheer wool and silk blends became known as "balzarine". In the mid-19th century, the term "barege" referred to sheer silk, wool, or wool and silk blends which could be figured, checked, or spotted.
