Fig Leaf Patterns Soft Traditional Corset With Fan Lacing c. 1790s
$12.00
FL121S
This Fig Leaf Patterns Soft Traditional Corset With Fan Lacing Pattern makes a single layer corset made from two different fabrics.
The front bust area is made from a finer linen or cotton which adjusts at the neck line with a drawstring and is pleated into the short body of the corset. The Main Body of the corset is a heavier cotton or linen and is in three pieces with two short shoulder straps. The center front under bust band controls the width of pleated Bosom piece. The side/back of the corset is in one piece with shoulder straps originally rising from both front and back sections. What makes this soft corset unusual is the use of fan lacing for only eight eyelet holes.
FIT
This soft, single layer corset would have been worn over a shift. More than likely
made at home with individualized adjustments for personal fit, this might have one of several types of corset a woman would have in her wardrobe. With the newer emphasis on
freedom of movement, this corset provides minimal support and may not be for every figure.
FABRIC
Two different weights of fabric make up this simple corset. The Front Bosom piece is made from a lighter and finer weave, than the heavier body pieces.
CHOOSING SIZE
When deciding which size is correct for you to use, measure your rib cage under your bust, preferably with your shift on. If you have a fuller bust, you many want to choose the next size up and alter through the bust gathers and tucks in the main body when making your toile.
