This cast Brass Ball Button is a common shape and size found on clothing from the 14th through 17th centuries.  Metal buttons were common, often cast with the shank of various materials such as lead, pewter, tin and alloys.  Similar buttons to these Brass Ball Button were dug at the Jamestown Settlement here in Virginia.   A medieval example can be found in the records of the Portable Antiquities Scheme.

  • Measures approx. 3/8 inch diameter.
  • Shank is approx. 5/16 inches long.
