Lawn was a delicate fabric originally made in linen, and later in cotton, used for shirts, handkerchiefs, ruffles, aprons and caps. "Lawn closely resembles cambric but is thinner and finer" (Textiles in America by Montgomery pp 275).
Swatches are no longer available for this fabric since there are fewer than 20 yards remaining.
- This is a very fine, slightly sheer, tightly woven cotton.
- It is very suitable for superfine shifts, aprons, ruffs, sleeve ruffles, bosom ruffles, tuckers, cravats, handkerchiefs, caps, chemisettes, 19th c overdresses, and baby clothes.
