Stylistically this Fig Leaf Patterns Silk Pelisse belongs to the period 1798-1812, though the train and soft sleevehead identify it more with garments from 1798-1805. There is no piping or sleeve puff, which is more common post-1810.

The train of the pelisse recalls the 1790s, but was also popular from 1805-1809.  Post-1810 pelisses have hems which are even and above the ground. There are very few images of pelisses in museum collections which do not have a collar of some sort, including an extant 1805 pelisse in the collection of the Met Museum.  This makes the Middleton Pelisse’s plain neckline unusual.
