Aglets, such as our Plain Brass Aglet, have a long history.  Used on the ends of lacings, they provided a simpler execution of the elaborate lacing that was used to hold clothing together and on the body.  Especially common in the 16th and early 17th centuries, they could be plain to fancy.  Our Plain Brass Aglet is very similar to ones found by the London Mudlark, most likely 17th century in origin.
