Knotting was a popular form of handwork in the 18th century, that was used to make trims used in clothing and as embellishment in needlework. Simple strings of knots or elaborate fringes were manufactured using a knotting shuttle. Extant Shuttles during this time period (such as our bone knotting shuttle) typically measure 4 to 6 inches in length.

  • Our Bone Knotting Shuttle measures approximately 4 5/8 inches in length by 1 inch in width by 1/2 inch tall.

  • Large enough to handle various sized yarns, such as were used in the period, and to feel comfortable in the hand.
