Supplies List For French Hoods of the 1520s-1540s

Supplies Provided:

Patterns for both 1520s-30s and 1540s French hoods

Supplies to purchase:

Participants must choose at least one 1520s-30s OR 1540s kit for the class. (Optional to purchase both). Choices will be offered after registration. Kits include:

• 1520s-30s kit for ($50):

• ½ yard black velvet

• 2 Fat quarters of  satin: choose red, black, or white 

• Fat quarter linen 

• 1 yard 1/8” cotton tape

• Fat eighth metallic silk organza

• 1540s kit for ($55):

• All of the above plus:

• Fat quarter paste buckram

• 1 yard 20 gauge millinery wire 

You are responsible for bringing the following:

• Black silk thread for hood seams
• White silk thread for under cap lining
• White linen thread for crespin
• Silk thread to match their hood lining
• Silk thread to match their under cap
• Habilliments (pearls, ouches, etc.)
• Bodkin/yarn needle
• Needle nose pliers (1540s only)
• Wire cutters (1540s only)
• Dressmaking scissors
• Straight pins
• Hand sewing needles
• Chalk or marking pen/pencil (dark and light fabrics)
