Light Saxon Green Lightweight Linen
Linen cloth, like our Light Saxon Green Lightweight Linen, was woven of flax fiber in many grades and weaves. Used in every aspect of living, from clothing, to household needs, to furnishings, to the shroud made for the corpse, linen was so common that a tax was proposed as a source of easy revenue on the coarser sorts being imported into the US towards the end of the 18th century.
For Saxon Green dye, indigo and fustic created a bright and beautiful green something like our modern aqua. Introduced in the mid 18th century, it opened up new possibilities for indigo dyeing and printing. We have studied original samples of wool dated 1771 labeled Saxon Blue and Saxon Green. This Saxon Green closely resembles extant examples.
