Cloth and thread-covered buttons were among the most common buttons found on Men’s clothing in the 18th & early 19th centuries.  Occasionally, they were found on Ladies' gowns & jackets as well.  Button molds could be made of wood, horn or bone, such as our Horn Button Molds.  Molds are commonly dug at sites, found on the River Thames and survive on extant garments in collections. Our Horn Button Molds have a domed top and are well-suited for cloth covered buttons. Horn Button Molds are good for dark colored cloth or dark thread buttons, and a good choice if you plan on washing your garment.
