Regency "Openwork" Silk Stockings
"Openwork" designs centered on the front of the foot rather then the side, began appearing in the first part of the 19th century and continued on until the early 20th century. Designed with elaborate lace patterns and sometimes embellished with embroidery the style had a long popularity. This pattern is based on extant examples with the design starting at mid calf and moving down to the top of the toe.
