Woven Bordered Handkerchief
Inspired by DAR Museum Reproduction, by Burnley & Trowbridge Co.
This beautiful hand-loomed Woven Bordered Handkerchief is the ground for our embroidered reproduction. These bordered handkerchiefs were made of linen, linen/cotton, and all cotton. Holker cataloged one of English manufacture, made of linen with the red border of cotton, dated 1751. Countless handkerchiefs with varying borders can be found in collections such as the DAR Museum, The MFA Boston The Nordiska Museum and others, as well as prints and genre paintings. Plain or embroidered, it has a wide timespan, going well into the 19th century. This beautiful handkerchief could be worn plain, or you could embroider it yourself!
