Adorn Yourself: A Survey of 18th Century Women's Accessories & How to Make Them

Join Melissa on a deep dive into the accessories that 18th century women wore on a daily basis, during different seasons, and for special occasions. See how different textiles and accessory items can change the look of your 18th century kit. Also learn how to construct your own pinball, workbag, muff, mitts, and more.

This  2 ½ day  workshop, led by Melissa Mead, will include:

• An examination of images of a wide variety of accessory items, how they were worn, and construction options.

• Inspection of a variety of accessories owned by the instructor.

• Demonstration of all stitching & construction techniques needed to hand stitch and finish each accessory item.

• Time to complete no less than one item during the workshop weekend. 

Registrants will need to bring a basic sewing kit and fabrics for constructing their accessory items. (Specific materials and amounts  required will be emailed in the confirmation letter.) 

The instructor will have pinball kits available for purchase at the workshop.  Please be prepared for “homework” on both Friday and Saturday nights!

This workshop is an ADVANCED BEGINNER LEVEL 1. Participants are expected to have hand sewing skills and experience in creating a basic article of 18th century clothing such as an apron, pocket or petticoat.

Because of the nature and enrollment limitation of our workshops, we regret that we are unable to give a full refund for a cancellation.  If you cancel 30 or more days prior to the workshop, we will refund your fee less a $50 cancellation fee. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to the workshop, we will have to charge the full amount of the workshop unless we are able to fill your slot, in that event you will be charged only the $50 cancellation fee.  In the event of the workshop being cancelled we are not responsible for any costs by the attendee for cancelled reservations.
