Ivory, Gold, & Burgundy Striped Woven Cotton
Cotton was a primary export of North America, and was the foundation of America’s short-lived textile industry. Innovations in processing and spinning, and suitable climate and soil lead to large holdings of land given over to cotton production, which was made possible by the labors of enslaved individuals.
This fine and soft Ivory, Gold, & Burgundy Striped Woven Cotton is suitable for late 18th to mid-19th century applications. Examples of similarly woven fabrics have been seen in textile sample books, one on being in the MET Museum's collection from 1771 (obj 156.4T31). Plate 13 and plate 37 have very intricately woven stripes that could have been either pure cotton or cotton and silk.
- Ivory, Gold, & Burgundy Striped Woven Cotton is lightweight and a complex weave.
- Suitable for gowns, petticoats, women's jackets, pelisses, linings, jackets, skirts, waistcoats, children's clothing and light utilitarian needs.
- 100% Cotton, 44 inches wide.
