Pulling a Regency Bonnet: The Shaping, Assembling & Decorating of a 1810-25 Straw Bonnet
$259.00
WKSHP142-1
Saturday, May 3rd - Sunday, May 4th
Bonnets of straw, felt, or fabric covered buckram were essential accessories to complete the toilette of the Regency ladies, either worn over the dressed hair of the younger miss or over the lace-trimmed cap of the mature woman. Trimmings changed with fashions, and were likely to be removed and replaced seasonally. Personal preferences, whether restrained or lavish, dictated choices as much as style, and might include ribbons, artificial flowers or fruit, ribbon rosettes, feathers, and whimsical combinations of the above.
This 2 day workshop, led by Patricia Wesp will include:
-
An examination of a variety of images of bonnets from 1810-25.
-
Demonstration of pulling straw and felt on a fixed hat form in two pieces.
-
Demonstration of all stitching & construction techniques needed to hand-stitch the bonnet pieces, as well as the variety of ways to decorate your bonnet to taste.
-
Time to assemble your bonnet, design your trimmings, and decorate your bonnet.
