Clocked stockings are found worn by commoner as well as gentry. This design in green with yellow clock closely resembles a pair in the collection of the MET. Another pair in the same color way is in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg. We have looked at a number of stockings in the course of our research. One that stood out was a piece of a medium (originally bright blue) woolen stocking clocked with a bright pink, which was left as a token for a foundling in London.
