STO-SLC:GRAY

In the 1760’s various attempts to make an openwork fabric led the stocking makers to exploring what became lace clocks.  This eventually led to the first machine-made lace.  Lace clocks proved to be very popular especially with women, so that by the 80’s lace frame workers making the clocked stockings were being paid double that of the plain stocking frame worker.  Our stocking is based on several extant stockings in the Museum of Costume and Textiles, Nottingham, England.
