Mixed Green Kersey

"Kersey," such as this Mixed Green Kersey, was a cheap, twilled, and lightly-fulled wool, much in demand, especially among lower classes for its ability to shed water, keep out the cold, and wear well. Noted to be used greatly in overcoats, uniforms and other utilitarian garments, it was also used in home furnishings and draperies.

"Mix't" in the 18th century could be yarns dyed and then woven, or in this case various yarn fibers spun together to create this mottled effect. We found mixes in a variety of different wool cloths through out the 18th century, including broadcloth, kersey camlet, cassimere, sagathees and cantaloons
