Worn with the Riding Habit to complete the ensemble, the shirt was worn over the stays in addition to the shift worn under the stays. You could find variations of shirts in the 18th century including choices of a plain or ruffled collar, a cravat, stock or silk ribbon, bosom ruffles and cuff ruffles. These shirts are based on shirts in the collection of the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, Herefordshire, England.
