Black & White Striped Cotton & Silk Gauze
In the 18th and 19th centuries, sheer, crisp, woven silk known as Gauze was popular for ladies' garments as trims, overlays, neckerchiefs, caps, aprons & mantelets. Originally woven with two warp yarns twisted over the weft yarn, the weave was stable and strong. It was a sheer, light, semi-crisp fabric, sometimes woven with designs or flowers, and sometimes embroidered.
- Our Black & White Striped Cotton & Silk Gauze is sheer with thin black stripes.
- NOTE: the stripe goes from selvage to selvage
- It has a crisp hand with a soft drape.
- Suitable for lightweight gowns, petticoats, trims, linings, accessories, mantelets and all garments of various time periods where a smooth semi-lustrous fabric is desired.
- Black & White Striped Cotton & Silk Gauze is 30% Silk, 70% cotton; 54 inches wide.
