Deep Eggplant "Manchester" Cotton Velvet 

Manchester Velvet was a highly popular fabric in the second half of the 18th century. Hundreds of swatches in plain, fancy, and printed are found in pattern books in the collections of Colonial Williamsburg, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and Winterthur Museum. Used often in men's suiting, it was occasionally used for cuffs and collars, and sometimes for 18th century gowns. Cotton velvet appears in the 19th century in all manner of ladies and men's garments.
